Best Party Games for Adults

Party games are always fun, and provide hours of entertainment. They’re great for ice breakers, and bringing groups of people or families together for the holidays. That being said, it can be difficult to find a good game for adults. Sometimes these games are too easy, get boring too soon, or lose their entertainment value after one or two games. The difference is adults want games that are interesting, require strategy and thinking, and start conversations between each other.

The following games do all that and more.

Exploding Kittens: NSFW Edition (Explicit Content)

This game is very easy to learn and new players will pick it up easy. Exploding Kittens is a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats. In this highly-strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette, players draw cards until someone draws an Exploding Kitten, at which point they explode, they are dead, and they are out of the game — unless that player has a defuse card, which can defuse the Kitten using things like laser pointers, belly rubs, and catnip sandwiches.

The Resistance: Avalon Social Deduction Game

The Resistance: Avalon pits the forces of Good and Evil in a battle to control the future of civilization. It’s pretty much Mafia, where people must talk to each other, lie to each other, and figure out who’s who without being discovered. A reviewer says, “The first night we played, we went for almost 3 hours… Everyone kept saying, “one more!”, and “again!””.

The Resistance (The Dystopian Universe)

The Resistance is a very intense social deduction game for 5-10 players. This is a deduction game mixed with hidden roles (some people at the table are the bad guys) and lots of lying. If you don’t like looking at your friend and blatantly lying in his/her face, then this is not the game for you. While it shares similiarities with games like Werewolf, Mafia and even Battlestar Galactica it has many very unique features such as a quick 30 minute play time, no moderator required and no player elimination.

This game works very well with 4 players if you prefer to guess without help. Or you can add more players if you prefer lively discussion. It’s very similar to password. You have to play to play in teams, but if you have 4 or more people its lots of fun. Each team has one clue giver and a guesser (or guessers if more than 4 players). The two clue givers (one red/blue) simply say a one-word clue followed by a number of how many cards could go along with that clue.

Monopoly Deal Card Game

Looks and sounds like Monopoly, but this game does not play anything like it. Deal and steal your way to success – just collect 3 property sets to win. True to what it says, one game can played in 15 minutes or less. Game play is strategic but you can never be sure you have what you think you have because someone might charge you rent or make you pay because “it’s their birthday!” or (even better/worse) steal your properties or completed sets right from you. However, there are cards to combat this and it is fun to watch how it all shakes out.
